Helpdesk & remote support · Montana

The person who answers your ticket is a Montana based technician.

Remote support is included in your plan. No hourly billing, no after hours surcharge, no emergency rate. You should never weigh up whether a problem is worth a phone call.

Answered 8 to 5 on weekdays, with someone on call outside those hours and monitoring around the clock.

The problem

You're paying for support and still waiting for it.

A ticket queue you can't see into, a different person every time, and a quiet calculation before every call about whether the problem is big enough to bother them with.

What we do instead
A named technician takes your ticket, with a direct line back to them. Every open ticket has an owner and a next update time — and if we miss the update, you hear from us anyway.
Who picks up

The same people who respond to breaches answer your password reset.

That is not an efficiency we are apologising for. It is the point. When a user calls about a slow laptop, someone who has done forensic investigations is deciding whether that is a failing drive or something worth looking at twice — and that is not something you can train into a helpdesk script.

GCFA / GCFE / GNFA
The GIAC forensics certifications you'd want held by whoever investigates a breach at your company. Here, they're held by the people answering the phone.
CEH and CompTIA PenTest+
We test systems the way attackers do, which is why we recognise a live attempt instead of logging it as a glitch.
CySA+ and Network Security Professional
Threat detection and response, so monitoring alerts get acted on rather than accumulating in a dashboard.
SSCP, Security+, Network+, A+
The foundations. Nobody touches your systems without them.
We work out of offices in Great Falls, Billings and Helena, with staff across Montana. Same time zone, same state, and if it needs hands on it, someone drives.
Why this matters at renewal: cyber insurers increasingly ask who manages your environment and what they are certified in.
One ticket, start to finish

What happens between your call and it being fixed.

Six steps, and the fifth is the one other providers can't do in house.

01
You call, email or chat
Whichever is faster. You don't have to work out which channel is the right one.
A Montana technician picks up, 8 to 5 weekdays, with someone on call outside those hours.
02
A named technician takes it
Not a queue position. A person, with a direct line back to them.
The same small group handles your account, and you have their names and direct numbers from onboarding.
03
Most of it is fixed while you're on the phone
We connect to the machine while you watch, and you see everything we do.
Anything that turns out to be a security event is escalated in house, not handed off.
04
If it can't be closed now, you get a time
Not “we'll look into it.” Every open ticket has an owner and a next update time.
If we miss the update, you hear from us anyway.
05
Anything security related escalates in house
Many IT firms subcontract incident response. We escalate to our own incident response team, and security issues carry a 10 minute median first response.
Same company, same people, no handoff and no finder's fee. Onsite same day for contract clients if it needs hands.
06
Calling us never costs extra
Support is included in your plan. No hourly billing, no after hours surcharge, no emergency rate.
You should never weigh up whether a problem is worth a call.
What we commit to

What we commit to, in writing.

Commitments you can hold us to, written as behaviour rather than as a number we would have to caveat.

When
What we commit to
You call during business hours
A Montana technician picks up, 8 to 5 on weekdays. Outside those hours someone is on call and monitoring runs around the clock.
A ticket is opened
It has a named owner and a next update time. Not a queue position.
We miss an update
You hear from us anyway, before you have to chase it.
It looks like a security event
It escalates to our own incident response team rather than being handed to a third party. Security issues carry a 10 minute median first response, measured over the last 90 days.
It needs hands on a machine
Onsite the same day for contract clients. Other work is scheduled same day where availability allows.
The work falls outside the plan
Quoted before we start, never after. Incident response beyond initial triage bills at $165 an hour, and we tell you before the clock starts.
What's included

What support covers, and what it doesn't.

Priced per device. Everything in the list is in the monthly rate; the exclusions are quoted before we start, never after.

Essentials
$75 per device / month
Everything below, for a standard office environment.
✓Remote support and remote management
✓Patch management, including third party software
✓Software and printer deployment
✓Endpoint backups up to 500GB, and server backups
✓Managed endpoint detection and response (EDR)
✓Security awareness training for your staff
Professional
$95 per device / month
Everything in Essentials, plus the controls an auditor or insurer asks about.
✓Microsoft 365 detection and response
✓Managed SIEM with retained logs
✓Managed antivirus
✓The Big Sky Guarantee and Service Warranty, once certified
What isn't included
Hardware, third party licenses, onsite work beyond the agreed allowance, and projects above a defined size — all quoted before we start, never after. Incident response for clients who aren't certified or on a retainer bills at $165 an hour, and we tell you before the clock starts. For The Big Sky Guarantee and Service Warranty, eligibility requirements, service limits and exclusions apply.
Switching

You already have an IT provider.
Here's how leaving actually works.

Cutover is usually about two weeks from signature, and we allow four to cover handoff and anything that comes up.

Check your notice period first
Most agreements need 30 to 90 days' written notice and many renew automatically. Send us your current contract and we'll tell you your real exit date before you decide anything. No charge, no obligation.
Your documentation belongs to you
Network diagrams, passwords, license keys, warranty records. We request them on your behalf, and if they won't hand them over we rebuild from scratch — about two to four days, included.
Nothing cuts over until you say so
We run alongside your current provider and you pick the switch date. Their access is revoked on a checklist you sign.
No new hardware required
We assess what you already have and work with it. You're not buying equipment to change providers.

Honest fit

When we're not the right call.

Four cases, and we'll say so on the first call rather than after it.

01

Under five devices, with no cyber or compliance requirements

At that size the per-device model doesn't serve you well, and we'd rather say so. If you carry cyber insurance requirements or a compliance obligation, that changes the answer — those don't scale down with headcount.
02

You need someone onsite every day

We work remote first, with onsite backup. If your work is constant hands on hardware, hire someone.
03

You're shopping on price alone

We're not the cheapest option in Montana. If the number has to be below $75 a device, we're the wrong fit and we'll say so on the first call.
04

You want IT and security kept separate

Some organizations deliberately split them. We're built the opposite way.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is remote support really included, or is there a catch?

Remote support is included in your plan, with no hourly billing, no after hours surcharge and no emergency rate. Any limits are written into the agreement, and we'll walk you through them before you sign.

How long are we locked in?

One year, the same term as our other managed services. The full terms are in the agreement, and we'll walk you through them before you sign.

What if we add or lose staff?

Billing follows device and user count monthly. No renegotiation.

Do you support Mac?

Yes. We support and monitor both Windows and macOS devices.

Can you handle our HIPAA requirements?

Yes — we run HIPAA Security Risk Assessments and compliance management for Montana practices, and we work with PCI DSS and SOX requirements too. See healthcare services →

Who has access to our systems?

Only Big Sky technicians working on your account. Access is logged, and you can request the log any time.

What happens if we leave you?

You keep your documentation, passwords and diagrams, and there's no exit fee. Handing over takes about as long as onboarding did. We'd rather lose a client cleanly than hold their network hostage.
